Thomas Houseago: Striding Figure / Standing Figure

Galleria Borghese hosts two new sculptures by Thomas Houseago. Conceived for the Uccelliera, a seventeenth century aviary on the grounds of the Villa Borghese, these monumental figurative works are cast in plaster and hemp with iron rebar skeletons. Through his reimaginings of the likes of Bernini, Boccioni, and Canova, Houseago aims to create an art-historical dialogue about the figure, its representation, and the potential energy or truth it can hold in the twenty-first century.
